If the costumes are ready but the evening plan is still floating somewhere between “we should go out” and “what time does it start?”, Wesley Chapel has two free options tonight, Thursday, October 29. Run the Ranch: Trot or Treat begins at 5:30 p.m., and KRATE Jeep Jam: Trunk or Treat starts at 6 p.m.

The first event is at Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus, 3021 Sports Coast Way. Families can choose a 5K costume run or a 1-mile walk, then stay for trunk-or-treat activities. The event is open to all ages and fitness levels, including runners, walkers, strollers and friendly leashed pets. Participation and parking are free; smoothies and acai bowls will be available for purchase inside the campus.

Run the Ranch lasts until 8 p.m., so the schedule works for people who want a little movement before the candy appears. Costumes are encouraged, but the run and walk remain welcoming to different paces. Anyone interested in decorating a vehicle and handing out treats can contact the organizer at sraguraman@playwiregrass.com.

The second option, KRATE Jeep Jam: Trunk or Treat, runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at KRATE at the Grove, 5817 Wesley Grove Boulevard. Bay Area Jeeps will host decorated vehicles, music, treats and a live DJ. Admission is free, and the longer event window gives families room to arrive after work or after the first stop of the evening.

Both events are family-friendly, free and close enough in start time that choosing may come down to energy level: sneakers and a one-mile walk, or decorated Jeeps and music. Families trying both should leave travel and parking time between locations. Most of all, bring a light layer for the evening, keep children close in busy parking areas and let the costumes do the serious work.
