WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Drivers traveling through Wesley Chapel late Thursday, Oct. 15, should plan for overnight lane restrictions on State Road 56 and the southbound Interstate 75 exit ramp to Wesley Chapel Boulevard.

The Florida Department of Transportation lists both locations in its weekly construction schedule, with Thursday night's work extending into Friday morning, Oct. 16.

Where the Restrictions Are Planned

On SR 56, the listed work zone runs from west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to east of Shops Lane. Lane closures are scheduled from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

A separate restriction affects the southbound I-75 Exit 279 ramp to CR 54, also known as Wesley Chapel Boulevard. Ramp lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. FDOT says all turns will remain available.

What the Construction Will Change

The SR 56 work is part of a $19.8 million resurfacing contract covering portions of SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The project also includes intersection safety improvements, accessibility upgrades, drainage work, traffic signals and lighting. Completion is estimated for fall 2027.

The separate $1.7 million Exit 279 project includes widening and resurfacing the southbound ramp, with dual left-turn lanes onto eastbound CR 54 and associated drainage, signal, lighting and pavement-marking work. Completion is estimated for spring 2027.

Those dates refer to the overall construction projects. The overnight restrictions listed here are specific to this week's schedule.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and check FDOT's latest closure listings before leaving, as construction schedules can change.
