The public meeting runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pasco County Schools District Office in Land O' Lakes. The team is reviewing health and physical-education materials for possible use beginning in the 2027-2028 school year.
Pasco County Schools' Instructional Materials Adoption Narrowing Team will meet Monday evening as part of a multi-step process that could shape materials used in middle-school health and high-school physical-education courses across the district.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Building 3, Training Room C, at 7227 Land O' Lakes Boulevard, Land O' Lakes, FL 34638. The district says meetings of teams reviewing, narrowing or selecting instructional materials for recommendation to the School Board must be publicly noticed and open to the public.
The district lists five narrowing-team meetings. Monday's session is the second meeting in that sequence.
What the team is reviewing
The 2026-2027 adoption covers materials for M/J Health 6 and HOPE-Physical Education Core, course 3026010. The materials selected through this process are intended for implementation in the 2027-2028 school year.
HOPE stands for Health Opportunities through Physical Education. Florida's course description combines physical education with health topics and is designed to develop healthy lifestyle choices, student health and physical fitness. The state's course information includes subjects such as injury prevention, internet safety, nutrition, personal health, disease prevention, substance-use prevention and resiliency education.
The district has not identified a final publisher or announced a final selection. The narrowing team's role is to examine materials submitted by publishers and identify options that align with the district's criteria and Florida standards.
How the adoption process works
Pasco County Schools describes the adoption as a three-phase process. First, the district establishes evaluation criteria, administers a perception survey, develops an Instructional Materials Evaluation Tool and finalizes its vendor-call requirements.
The current narrowing phase brings instructional leaders and participating parents together to examine publisher resources using the evaluation tool. District content specialists also help the team connect the materials to curriculum and standards.
The final phase belongs to the formal approval process: a School Board workshop, a public hearing and a School Board vote. A 30-day period for petitions for reconsideration follows final board approval.
What Monday's meeting does not do
This is not an official School Board meeting, and no final School Board action will be taken Monday night. Pasco County Schools states that committee recommendations or information may later be submitted to the superintendent or School Board for consideration at a properly noticed board meeting where the public has an opportunity to be heard.
That distinction matters. A narrowing team can influence which products advance, but it does not have the final authority to adopt classroom materials.
How families can follow the process
The district's published schedule includes additional narrowing-team meetings on November 2, November 12 and November 16, all from 5 to 8 p.m. in Building 3, Training Room C. The first session was held October 19.
The September 17 deadline to apply for a parent position on the five-night narrowing team has passed. However, the listed meetings remain open to the public. Families seeking information about observation, documents or participation procedures may contact the district at instructionalmaterials@pasco.k12.fl.us.
Parents should watch for the later School Board workshop and public hearing, because those are the formal stages where the recommendations move toward a board decision.
