For families who educate their children at home, sometimes one class can make a big difference. Pasco County Schools will open its Semester 2 Flex Education application on Monday, November 2, allowing eligible Home Education and Personalized Education Program students to take up to three courses through a Pasco public school or Pasco eSchool.

The program is not the same as FLVS Flex, and it does not turn a student into a full-time public school student. Instead, it creates a part-time bridge: a student can remain in Home Education or PEP while adding a class that may be harder to provide at home, such as a lab, an elective or another course listed in the district catalogs. Course placement depends on availability and school capacity, and not every course is offered at every school.

The application window is short enough to deserve a calendar reminder: it closes Monday, November 30, and Semester 2 classes begin Tuesday, January 5, 2027. Applications are processed in the order received. Students may request up to three courses at their residentially zoned school, Pasco eSchool or, when a course is unavailable locally, another school the district may consider based on space.

Families should also look carefully at costs and logistics. Pasco says no transportation is provided, and students should be on campus only during their scheduled class time. Non-scholarship Home Education students may enroll part time without the listed tuition applying to them, although some courses may have additional fees. Scholarship-funded students, including eligible FTC-PEP and FES participants, must use scholarship funds for applicable tuition or fees described by the district.

The opportunity is useful, but it is not a diploma program. Students cannot earn a Pasco County Schools high school diploma through Flex Education alone. After an application is submitted, the Home Education Office will coordinate school assignment, course selection and registration; families will then complete the Flex Education contract and, when applicable, pay required charges by the district deadline.

For a family that wants the flexibility of home education without giving up access to a public-school course, this is a practical option worth reviewing early. The best first step is to compare the elementary, middle or high school catalog with the student’s needs, then apply before popular classes fill.
