For some voters, the hardest part of Election Day is not deciding how to vote. It is simply getting to the polling place. On Tuesday, November 3, GoPasco will offer free bus rides from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Pasco County voters who show a valid Voter Information Card.
The service is a partnership between Pasco County Public Transportation and the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections. It applies on General Election Day, when polls are also open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It does not apply during early voting, which ends Saturday, October 31.
This is public transit, not a private ride directly to every precinct. Voters should first check their assigned Election Day polling location, then compare it with GoPasco routes and stops. A few minutes of planning matters, especially because a voter must use the precinct assigned to the address on the registration record on Election Day.
The free ride removes the fare, but it does not change voting requirements. Riders should bring the Voter Information Card for the bus program and acceptable identification for check-in at the polls. The card helps with the ride, while election officials follow Florida identification rules at the voting location.
The program is especially helpful for residents who do not drive, share a family vehicle or depend on public transportation. It is also a reminder that access can be practical, not abstract: sometimes civic participation starts with a bus stop and enough time to make the return trip.
For Wesley Chapel voters planning to use the service, the best move is to map the trip before Tuesday rather than improvising at the curb. Polling-place questions can be directed to the Pasco elections office at 800-851-8754, and route information is available through GoPasco.
