I-75 Exit 279: Construction at Wesley Chapel Boulevard

A $1.7 million FDOT interchange project started October 5 on the southbound I-75 Exit 279 ramp to County Road 54 (Wesley Chapel Boulevard). It will widen and resurface the ramp, add dual left-turn lanes to eastbound CR 54, and improve signs, markings, drainage, signals and lighting. Completion is expected in spring 2027.

FDOT scheduled ramp-lane restrictions October 11–15 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with all turns available. That is not confirmation of a Friday afternoon closure. Stay alert to signs, traffic patterns and construction crews.

SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard

FDOT's $19.8 million resurfacing project spans 7.3 miles of SR 56 (west of Bruce B. Downs to east of Meadow Pointe Boulevard) and Bruce B. Downs (SR 56 to south of CR 54). Work began August 24, 2026, with completion estimated for fall 2027.

Plans include intersection safety improvements, drainage, lighting, traffic signals and adjustments to the Meadow Pointe turning/merge area. Lane restrictions on SR 56 from west of Bruce B. Downs to east of Shops Lane were scheduled October 11–15, 8:30 p.m.–7:30 a.m. They were scheduled to end Friday morning, not run all Friday evening.

Other Pasco Routes to Watch

SR 54 is an east–west alternative, but it is not automatically quicker than SR 56. FDOT listed restrictions at SR 54 and Henley Road (elsewhere in Pasco County) October 16, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. On SR 52 west of I-75 to Tradeway Boulevard/Pasco Road, periodic nighttime closures were scheduled through Friday night, 8 p.m.–6 a.m.

Around Wiregrass Ranch shopping areas, look out for turning vehicles, people crossing and parking-lot entrances. These are general precautions, not a claim of verified backups today.
