FDOT schedules lane restrictions at SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs
Overnight right-lane closures are scheduled near the intersection from Oct. 25 through Oct. 29. A separate daytime turn-lane closure will run from Oct. 26 through Oct. 30.
Drivers in Wesley Chapel should expect lane restrictions at the SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard intersection this week, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Overnight closures
From Sunday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 29, the right lane will close overnight from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
The overnight closures affect:
- The right lane of SR 56 at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
- The right lane of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard approaching and passing through the SR 56 intersection.
Daytime turn-lane closure
From Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30, the right-turn lane from SR 56 onto northbound Bruce B. Downs Boulevard will close from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
FDOT says drivers will still be able to make the turn using the right through lane.

Part of a larger resurfacing project
The restrictions are part of a combined resurfacing and safety project covering:
- SR 56 from west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to east of Meadow Pointe Boulevard
- Bruce B. Downs Boulevard from SR 56 to south of County Road 54
FDOT lists the project cost at $19.8 million and estimates completion in fall 2027. The project also includes intersection safety improvements, drainage work, traffic-signal upgrades and overhead lighting.
Drivers should allow extra time, follow work-zone signs and use caution near the intersection.
