A camera captures a pet’s face in an instant. Drawing one asks for a closer look: the shape of an ear, the direction of the fur, the expression that makes an animal recognizable. That is the subject of Tuesday’s Art Snacks session at Avalon Park Wesley Chapel, where participants will work on pet portraits using pastels.

Led by artist Sally Yoder, the series pairs different materials with artists and artistic concepts. This week’s program lists Bonnie Snowden alongside the pet-portrait theme. She is the session’s artistic reference, rather than the instructor previously identified in this article.

For residents curious about making art, the practical appeal is the chance to try a medium without first buying a collection of supplies or enrolling in the entire series. Materials are included, and individual sessions are available. The organizer describes each class as a combination of art theory and hands-on work, with a completed piece to take home.

The subject also gives the exercise a personal connection. Rather than starting with an abstract assignment, participants will explore a familiar subject through color, shape and observation. The distinction is between simply recognizing an animal and paying attention to the details that give a portrait character.

Tuesday’s class follows earlier sessions involving watercolor, colored pencil and acrylics. The series finishes October 27 with perspective drawing using markers, offering another technique for participants interested in continuing.

Before booking

Registration is available through Eventeny. Select the October 20 pet-portrait session, rather than the October 27 class. The ticket terms state that purchases are non-refundable, non-cancellable and non-transferable, so participants should check their plans before completing payment.
