Avalon Park Common Opens as a New Gathering Place in Wesley Chapel

The newly opened park gives Avalon Park Wesley Chapel residents another place to gather, spend time outdoors and connect with neighbors.

Avalon Park Wesley Chapel has a new community gathering place.

Avalon Park Common, a new park near Friendly Way in the community’s downtown area, officially opened Sept. 25, adding another shared outdoor space for residents and families.

The park is part of Avalon Park Wesley Chapel’s broader effort to create a walkable community built around neighborhoods, parks and places where residents can spend time close to home.

But there is another local connection behind the new space: residents helped give it its name.

Before the opening, the community invited residents to submit naming ideas for the park. The winning name, Avalon Park Common, was submitted by Wesley Chapel resident Desiree Gutierrez and announced as part of the opening celebration.

A Place Designed for Community

Avalon Park Wesley Chapel already includes a mix of parks, playgrounds, pools, trails and other shared amenities, along with community events held throughout the year.

The new park adds another place where neighbors can meet, families can spend time outdoors and future community activities can take place.

The Sept. 25 grand opening included family activities, local vendors, community performances and the official unveiling of the park’s name.

While the celebration marked the park’s opening, the longer-term story is the space it leaves behind for residents.

Residents Helped Shape Its Identity

Inviting the public to help name the park also gave residents a direct role in shaping the identity of the new gathering place.

That community involvement fits with the way Avalon Park Wesley Chapel has developed its local programming, which regularly includes family events, festivals and other neighborhood activities.

Now, Avalon Park Common gives those efforts another permanent home.

Another Gathering Place in a Growing Part of Wesley Chapel

Avalon Park Wesley Chapel continues to grow along the State Road 54 corridor in eastern Wesley Chapel.

As new homes and businesses continue to arrive, shared spaces such as parks can play an important role in how residents experience their neighborhood day to day.

Large developments may be measured in homes, roads and commercial space.

But communities are also shaped by the smaller places where people meet, children play and neighbors get to know one another.

For residents of Avalon Park Wesley Chapel, one of those places now has a name.
