Overnight lane closures are planned October 5–8 as crews prepare to expand the southbound exit ramp to Wesley Chapel Boulevard.
WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Drivers using southbound Interstate 75’s Exit 279 should prepare for overnight lane closures starting Monday, October 5, as a $1.7 million interchange improvement project gets underway.
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to widen and resurface the ramp to County Road 54, identified in its traffic notice as Wesley Chapel Boulevard. The project will create two left-turn lanes for vehicles exiting southbound I-75 and heading east on CR 54.
Additional work includes drainage, traffic signals, signs, pavement markings and intersection lighting. FDOT lists spring 2027 as the estimated completion date and Blacktip Services Incorporated as the contractor.
When drivers should plan ahead
Ramp lane closures are scheduled Monday through Thursday nights, October 5–8, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. The final overnight period listed ends Friday morning, October 9.
FDOT says all turns will remain available during those closures. Drivers traveling through the work area should allow extra time and follow posted signs.
Nearby work on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard
Drivers should also account for separate overnight construction on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
FDOT lists lane closures from approximately 1.5 miles north of State Road 56 to Landry Lane on October 4–8, from 8:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m.
At the SR 56 intersection, the northbound right-turn lane is scheduled to close during those same hours. Right turns will remain available from the through lane.
For residents returning home late or leaving before dawn, checking the latest traffic notices before departure can help with planning. The announced closures cover this week’s work; the Exit 279 project itself is expected to continue into spring.
